College of DuPage HSTI Offers Armed Guard Training Course

College of DuPage is offering an Armed Guard Training course geared toward new officers as well as experienced employees who wish to earn Illinois state armed and unarmed security certification. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, through Friday, Sept. 2.

During this 40-hour program, participants will spend 20 hours learning information on a variety of topics, including arrest and control techniques, civil rights, fire and accident prevention, firearm handling and use, and Illinois criminal code and patrol procedures. An additional 20 hours will be spent on required live firearms training.

This state-approved program, in conjunction with a Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC), is a requirement for an officer to carry a firearm, within the performance of their duties, for their state licensed employer.
