Volo Bog hosts International Bog Day activities

Volo Bog State Natural Area and Friends of Volo Bog will be celebrating International Bog Day from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 24, with an art show and other activities.

Bog crafts for kids and guided bog tours will be held all afternoon. A donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children is requested.

Most of the 36 pieces of art on exhibit will be available by silent auction. An artist's reception from noon to 2 p.m. will be followed by music by folk/Americana trio Briar Road.

Bogs are peat-accumulating, acidic, waterlogged worlds that are home to strange plants, preserved human remains, and a myriad mythologies.

Visit www.FriendsofVoloBog.org or call (815) 344-1294 for more information. Volo Bog is at 28478 W. Brandenburg Road, Ingleside.
