Manager Showalter, 3B Machado latest Orioles to fall ill

NEW YORK (AP) - The illness making its way through the Orioles' clubhouse has claimed manager Buck Showalter and third baseman Manny Machado.

Baltimore was down three regular starters for Wednesday night's game at the Yankees because of illness and injury. First baseman Chris Davis was not in the lineup for the third straight game because of flu-like symptoms that hospitalized him Sunday night. Machado also started feeling sick Tuesday night and was being evaluated by a doctor at the ballpark Wednesday.

Showalter wasn't at Yankee Stadium during batting practice, and bench coach John Russell filled in. Russell says he won't be surprised if Showalter shows up at some point, but the manager was in a "rough" state.

Catcher Matt Wieters was out again after being hit by a pitch on his right foot in the first inning Monday, though he could be available to pinch hit in an emergency.
