Red Sox All-Star SS Bogaerts beaned by throw, stays in game

BOSTON (AP) - Boston shortstop Xander Bogaerts was hit on the head by an errant throw, but he remained in Wednesday night's game against the San Francisco Giants.

The All-Star led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a hard grounder to third base. Ramiro Pena fielded it, but his throw was up the first base line, and it hit Bogaerts in the helmet as he stretched for the bag.

Bogaerts threw his helmet down and bent over. The Boston training staff came out to check on him, but he remained in the game.

The play comes one day after Pirates pitcher Jameson Taillon was hit in the head by a line drive from Hernan Perez against Milwaukee. Taillon lay on the ground for several minutes while being tended to by medical staff before being cleared to stay in the game.
