187 warehouse workers in Indianapolis, Yorktown to lose jobs

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A company that supplies Marsh supermarkets has notified the Indiana Department of Labor it will be laying off more than 180 workers at warehouses in Indianapolis and Yorktown.

The notices filed Friday by C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. based in Keene, New Hampshire, said the layoffs were the result of Marsh deciding not to renew a distribution and supply agreement.

That contract expires Sept. 24.

According to the notices, Indianapolis Logistics and Indianapolis Haulage plan to close the warehouses. That will lead to 116 people losing their jobs in Indianapolis and 71 in Yorktown, 5 miles west of Muncie. Marsh said it served notice on July 5 that it would not renew its distribution and supply agreement with C&S Wholesale Grocers.
