Lions Club gives awards to two Jacobs High students

The Algonquin Lions Club honored two graduating Jacobs High School students with the Ted Spella Education Award for academic excellence and outstanding community service.

Nicole Frantik and Aly Sandblom were each awarded $2,500 by the Algonquin Lions Club with funds raised by the sixth annual Algonquin Lions-Buffalo Wild Wings Charity Bean Bag Tournament.

Barb and John Weiler of Algonquin's Buffalo Wild Wings also awarded Nicole and Aly with $1,000 scholarship checks.

Nicole will attend Roosevelt University and major in special education, and Aly will attend Iowa State University where she will major in veterinary science.

The Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization. Founded in 1917, it has 1.35 million members in more than 45,000 clubs in more than 206 countries and geographic areas. In addition to its vision programs, club community projects support local children and schools through scholarships, recreation and mentoring.
