Elk Grove's Grodzin gets crash course on doing podcasts
Josh Grodzin, director of business development and marketing for Elk Grove Village, was like many in his profession. He focused on helping local businesses and encouraged other companies to move in to town.
He never expected to be hosting a talk show. Now he is.
In June, the village launched its first podcast, called Strictly Business, to promote local businesses, and Grodzin is at the helm. The show is available at the Apple iTunes Store and can be found at www.egvbizhub.com.
The show features interviews with local business owners and experts and explores various topics, including workforce development, innovation, culture, infrastructure and regional economics.
"There are so many ways people get information these days," said Grodzin. "Podcasting is a growing area. Since most people have smartphones it seemed like a no-brainer."
Grodzin has incorporated the podcast into his regular work days and a new episode is released every other week.
The podcast runs about 25 minutes, requires about 30 minutes of editing and about an hour of research and prep, he said.
Beth Clem, a producer at EGV TV Channel 6, does the editing, and they use the EGV TV studios, based in the village's Public Safety and Administration Building.
Grodzin said he didn't have any TV experience before doing the podcast, but he enjoys talking with people and learning about their companies.
"I also enjoy learning about business-related topics, like entrepreneurship and leadership," he said. "These are some of the themes we discuss."
The first episode was downloaded more than 200 times, from Chicago, New York, California and Turkey.
"I have heard from many people," Grodzin said.
