Valentine's buzzer-beater lifts Bulls

Bulls rookie Denzel Valentine hit just 3 shots all game, but those included a tying 3-pointer with 0.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter and a game-winning 18-footer at the buzzer in overtime.

The last shot gave the Bulls the Las Vegas summer-league championship with an 84-82 victory over Minnesota on Monday night.

Valentine set up the game-winner with a drive, stopped about two feet short of the foul line, spun to his left and drained the winning jumper as time expired. The Timberwolves tied the score with 11.7 seconds left when Xavier Silas banked in a 3-pointer.

Second-year forward Bobby Portis finished off a good run in Las Vegas by producing 26 points and 10 rebounds in the title game.

Point guard Jerian Grant was named the game's MVP with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Grant scored the first 5 points of overtime. Center Cristiano Felicio tacked on 12 points and 8 boards.

Valentine struggled with his outside shot during most of summer league. He went 1-for-7 from long range Monday, but saved the Bulls by knocking down a 3-pointer at the end of regulation after Minnesota's Tyus Jones hit a 30-footer over two defenders with 3.6 seconds on the clock.

After collecting the trophy, Bulls summer-league coach Pete Myers talked about how head coach Fred Hoiberg wanted to change the culture when last season ended with a playoff miss. The Bulls were a perfect 7-0 in summer league.
