Truck driver, motorcyclist die in head-on Fox Lake crash

FOX LAKE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in the northern Illinois community of Fox Lake say the driver of a pickup truck and a motorcyclist are dead after the truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck several motorcycles.

The collision happened shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday on State Park Road about a quarter mile north of U.S. Highway 12. Police say 60-year-old Charles Kleffner of Spring Grove was headed south on State Park Road when his truck slammed into motorcycles heading north. Kleffner's truck burst into flames and he died at the scene. The motorcyclist identified as 43-year-old Matthew Stautz of Rothschild, Wisconsin, was pronounced dead at Centegra McHenry Medical Center. At least five other people were injured.

A multi-agency Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is investigating the crash.
