Chicago police officer praised for saving boy from drowning

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (AP) - A suburban fire department is crediting an off-duty Chicago police officer with saving the life of a boy who was pulled from the bottom of a swimming pool.
The Orland Fire Protection District says in a news release that it was the quick lifesaving actions of Cindy Guerra that saved the boy from drowning over the weekend. The release says the boy between the age of 10 and 12 was in full cardiac arrest when he was pulled from a pool in the backyard of an Orland Park family having a party on Saturday evening.
Guerra, who was attending the party, administered CPR. When firefighters arrived, the boy was breathing and conscious.
Orland Fire Protection District Fire Chief Michael Schofield says Guerra is a hero.
