Ulis hits game winner to highlight competitive quarterfinals

A look at some of the highlights from the four quarterfinal games Saturday at the Las Vegas Summer League:

ULIS' GAME WINNER

Tyler Ulis buried a 3-pointer from well behind the arc to give the Suns an 82-81 overtime victory over the Nuggets. Ulis finished with 19 points and four assists in an odd Summer League game. Suns forward and No. 4 overall pick Dragan Bender was fouled as time expired in regulation and went to the line needing to hit 1 of 2 to end the game. He missed both, setting up Ulis' heroics, and ended the game with nine points on 3-for-12 shooting.

No. 7 overall pick Jamal Murray scored 29 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added three assists, a steal and a blocked shot. It was the first time former Kentucky teammates Murray and Ulis have played against each other in NBA jerseys.

Suns forward Troy Williams scored 22 points and had six rebounds. Guard Jimmer Fredette added 16 points for the Nuggets.

MOVING ON

Tyus Jones hit two free throws with 0.4 seconds left to give the Timberwolves an 81-79 victory over the Raptors to advance to the semifinal round.

Xavier Silas scored 22 for the Timberwolves, including five 3-pointers. Jones, the 2015 No. 24 overall pick, scored 21 points and handed out eight assists, while 2014 No. 15 pick Adreian Payne had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Raptors' 2015 and 2016 first-round picks Delon Wright and Jakob Poeltl combined for 13 points on 6-for-13 shooting and were a combined minus-27.

The Timberwolves play the Suns in the semifinal round Sunday.

BOBBY'S BULLS

Second-year forward Bobby Portis led the Bulls into the semifinal round with an 88-85 win over the Wizards. The 2015 No. 22 overall pick scored 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting to go along with nine rebounds. No. 14 pick Denzel Valentine had 14 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to three assists and a steal.

Jarell Eddie paced the Wizards with 22 points, including five 3-pointers. He also finished with six rebounds and four assists. Second-year swingman Kelly Oubre Jr. had 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists. He shot 4 for 15, including 1 for 7 from behind the arc.

SATURDAY FINALE

Jordan McCrae did the heavy lifting for the Cavaliers with 25 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 91-83 victory over the Nets. Sean Kilpatrick led the Nets with 25 points and Beau Beech dropped 15 points on five 3-pointers. Beech also had seven rebounds.

Isaiah Whitehead hit a free throw to tie the game at 83 late in regulation and McCrae missed a 3-pointer that would have won the game in regulation. The Nets were shut out in overtime.
