Cycling pros race in Tour of Glen Ellyn

An inaugural race in the Intelligentsia Cup series drew more than 400 cyclists Saturday to a Glen Ellyn course designed by a two-time Olympian.

Spectators enjoyed views of the action around Lake Ellyn as well as food trucks and business vendors. But the pros and amateurs competing in the Tour of Glen Ellyn got no reprieve on John Vande Velde's course.

"There's nowhere on the course where you can relax and catch your breath," Vande Velde said ahead of race day.

Indeed, the field - split into categories by USA Cycling - tackled the course's 14 turns, chicane (S-curve), roundabout and hills in the second event of the series.

Liam White won the pro men's race, and Abby Krawczyk claimed first place in the pro women's race.

The series continues with the Willow Springs Road Race Sunday.
