No long-term deal for Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson will play this season under his franchise tag value of $13.952 million after he and Los Angeles couldn't agree to a long-term contract.

The sides had until the NFL deadline of 4 p.m. EDT Friday to reach a new deal. Johnson and the Rams now cannot negotiate a long-term extension until after the season.

In four NFL seasons, Johnson has 15 interceptions, including seven last year in a breakout season for the Rams after being a third-round draft pick out of Montana in 2012.

Johnson joined Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, Chicago wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and Kansas City's Eric Berry as franchised players who did not receive new contracts.
