Woman gets 6 years in prison for DUI crash that killed 2

RED BUD, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois woman found to have been driving under the influence has been sentenced to six years in prison in connection with a crash that killed two.

Crystal Steinheimer of Red Bud was charged with reckless homicide in the January 2015 deaths of 19-year-old Abigail Liefer and 20-year-old Hannah Marie Porter, both of Red Bud. Steinheimer pleaded guilty to the charge in June.

The then 20-year-old Steinheimer was driving north on Illinois 159 in rural Monroe County when she lost control of the car. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a car driven by Liefer.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/29Hiu1U) that after Thursday's hearing, Teri Liefer, Abigail's stepmother, said she didn't think six years was enough prison time for Steinheimer, who must serve 85 percent of her sentence.
