Mount Prospect church hosts screening, discussion of film about campus rape

The Domestic Violence Outreach Ministry of St. Raymond de Penafort Parish in Mount Prospect will host a screening of the award-winning documentary "The Hunting Ground," at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by a discussion afterward.

The 2015 film exposes a culture of denial amid a high percentage of sexual assaults on college campuses. The film concludes that approximately 16 to 20 percent of college students are sexually assaulted during their academic years.

College or college-bound students and their parents are encouraged to attend. Reservations can be made by calling (847) 253-8600, but walk-in attendees will be accepted up to capacity.

The screening and discussion will take place in the Parish Life Center at St. Raymond, 301 S. I-Oka Ave. in Mount Prospect, at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue.

Other sponsors of the event include the Domestic Violence Ministries of Our Lady of the Wayside, St. James and St. Edna parishes in Arlington Heights.

The faith communities of the Archdiocese of Chicago emphasize that every person deserves to be safe in his or her relationships. A wide range of resources for people affected by violence, including sexual assault, is available in the Northwest suburbs.
