Buffalo Grove police win national traffic safety award

The Buffalo Grove Police Department has won the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety award as part of the 2016 National Law Enforcement Safety Challenge.

The department competed against 163 sheriff's and municipal agencies from across the country in the challenge, which also issues awards in the categories of speed enforcement, impaired driving enforcement and occupant protection.

"This is an excellent accomplishment, and the men and women of the department are honored for being selected to receive this prestigious award," said Sgt. Anthony Goldstein said.

Traffic safety is one of the core principles for the Buffalo Grove Police Department, and the milestone highlights the dedication shown by the entire department, he added.

Programs nominated for the award are evaluated on problem identification, policies, planning, training, public information and education, in addition to enforcement outcomes. The National Law Enforcement Challenge is a traffic safety recognition program supported by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It is held in partnership with the National Sheriffs' Association, the Governors Highway Safety Association, and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators.
