Music notes: Vince Neil joins Arcada rock circus

Neil brings Crue to Arcada

Best known as the unmistakable voice of Motley Crue, Vince Neil has had a long and storied history with the band. He brings the hits of the Motley canon to Ron's Rock 'N Roll Circus II at the Arcada Theatre. It's a night of hard rock rounded out by the Hellzapoppin Circus Sideshow. The lineup also includes '80s-'90s metal rockers KIX and Chicago rock band Enuff Z'Nuff for an evening of PG-17 entertainment at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. $49-$99. (630) 962-7000 or arcadalive.com. 7 p.m. Saturday, July 16

Catch Bobaflex at Brauerhouse

Elk Grove Village's Brandon James and his hard-rocking Jimi Falls join the lineup at Brauerhouse when metal band Bobaflex ventures to the Chicago area. Chicago's Two Ton Anvil contributes its genre-jumping blend to the lineup, joined by Fools' Brew's driving Midwest metal. At Brauerhouse, 1000 N. Rohlwing Road, Lombard. $10-$13. (630) 495-2141 or brauerhouse.com. 9 p.m. Friday, July 15

Burn, Werewolves at Cubby Bear

If you're looking for some solid Chicago rock 'n' roll, head to the Cubby Bear Friday when Big City Burn takes the headlining slot with their driving guitars and strong vocal work. Michigan's Vandalay checks in on the lineup, along with the groove-rocking, soulful originals from Werewolves at Hour 30 and Americana-tinged rock from the Trick Shooter Social Club. Cubby Bear, 1059 W. Addison St., Chicago. $7-$10. (773) 327-1662 or cubbybear.com. 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 15

Two big fests, one big weekend

Some of the indie and rock scenes' biggest stars will be heading to the Chicago area in the next few days. The Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park showcases some of the most entertaining pop and indie artists making the rounds today. My recommendation: If you want spectacle and artistry, don't miss Broken Social Scene Friday night. Also, Chicago Open Air debuts at Toyota Park, heavy with some of the best metal and hard rockers out there, including locals Disturbed, Chevelle and Ministry.

Pitchfork Music Festival: July 15-17 at Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St., Chicago. pitchforkmusicfestival.com. Tickets start at $65, $165 for three-day passes.

Chicago Open Air: July 15-17 at Toyota Park, 7000 Harlem Ave., Bridgeview. chicagoopenair.com. Tickets start at $69.50; $149.50 for three-day passes.
