Harper Golf Open raises record funds to support students

Nearly 130 area golfers gathered recently for some friendly competition - and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.

After all the drives, putts and mulligans were tallied, the Harper College Educational Foundation's 28th annual Golf Open raised a record $122,795 for scholarships and programming.

"Harper's Golf Open is an opportunity to come together to support some truly deserving students and have some fun along the way," said Michael Adzovic, annual giving manager of the Harper College Educational Foundation.

"The event's growing success shows the community's commitment to education and student success."

The outing, which included 18 holes of golf, brunch, a cocktail reception, dinner and awards presentation, took place Monday, June 13, at the Inverness Golf Club. Jake and Jordan Sadoff of the Oak Brook-based hair restoration business Restore by Katona, chaired the Golf Open effort.

The event also featured a raffle and live auction with numerous prizes, including restored wooden seats from Wrigley Field and Chicago Stadium, a penthouse suite at a Chicago Bulls game and a five-night getaway to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains.

The auction also featured dueling gift baskets from both Harper College President Dr. Ken Ender and twin brother Dr. Steve Ender, who serves as president at Grand Rapids Community College.

Proceeds will benefit Harper's Promise Program and other scholarships that aid the college with programming, scholarships and other support where it's most needed amid uncertain state funding.

Next year's Golf Open is already on the books for June 12, 2017, at Inverness Golf Club. For information about the foundation, call (847) 925-6490 or visit harpercollege.edu/foundation.
