Police: South Elgin resident shot intruder

A late-night home invasion Saturday in South Elgin left one intruder hospitalized with a bullet wound suffered when the homeowner wrested a gun away from an accomplice and fired on them, police said. South Elgin police said both men were later captured and now face home invasion and aggravated battery charges in the confrontation that left the homeowner with a fractured eye socket. Full story.

Drunken driver hit Naperville police car, authorities say

A Bolingbrook man faces a number of charges, including DUI, after he crashed into an unoccupied squad car and then sped away, forcing police to chase him early Saturday, Naperville police said Sunday. Full story.

New Kids' Castle playground opens in Vernon Hills
