Lake in the Hills Rockin' Ribfest dishes out plenty of food, fun

Bands and barbecue drew crowds to the 11th annual Lake in the Hills Rockin' Ribfest Saturday.

As many as 20,000 people were expected to attend over the course of the four-day festival, which raises money for local organizations and scholarships.

Grills kept the ribs coming, while vendors also offered funnel cakes, ice cream and more.

Sara Smith of Algonquin enjoyed the music from And Beyond, even singing along to a cover of "The Final Countdown."

"I don't care if people are watching," she said. "I'm going to dance my butt off."

The festival continues Sunday and includes the Lip Smackin' BBQ Smack-Down Community Rib Cook-off where amateur cooks compete. Judging is between 5 and 6 p.m. with awards given out at 6:15 p.m.
