Two drown in Lake Michigan near Gary beach

Two men drowned in Lake Michigan during the Gary Air Show Saturday afternoon, authorities told ABC 7 Chicago.

Crews were called about 2:30 p.m. about a drowning near Wells Street Beach.

The two victims were identified as Kyle Reibly, a 26-year-old from Griffith, Indiana, and David Alden II, a 37-year-old from Hobart, Indiana, the Lake County Coroner's office told ABC 7.

Three other people were pulled from the water, Mark Jones, chief of operations for the fire department, told ABC 7. One was hospitalized and stable; the two others were able to walk away.

Hours before the drowning near the private beach, the National Weather Service had issued a statement cautioning Lake Michigan swimmers about strong rip currents.
