Wheeling man charged with selling LSD

A Wheeling man was ordered held on $125,000 bail Thursday on charges he sold LSD to an undercover police officer earlier this month.

Vansh Diwan, 23, faces charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance. If convicted of the most serious charge, he faces up to 30 years in prison.

In June, Mount Prospect police learned someone was selling LSD and cocaine in the village, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Alyssa Grissom. They obtained Diwan's cellphone number through a confidential informant and on July 1, an undercover officer purchased 10 units of LSD from Diwan for $80, Grissom said. On July 5, the officer purchased 25 units from Diwan for $125, Grissom said.

On July 6, officers searched Diwan's home and recovered 58 units of LSD along with cocaine, small plastic bags, a scale and the money undercover officers paid him days earlier, Grissom said.

Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Diwan to undergo drug treatment and submit to a curfew from 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. if he posts bond.

Diwan received probation for the manufacture and delivery of cannabis in 2011. On supervision for a 2014 DUI, he has a pending misdemeanor drug case in DuPage County, prosecutors said.

Diwan next appears in court on July 28.
