Holy Family Catholic Academy Receives Monsanto Fund Grant for Outdoor Classroom

Holy Family Catholic Academy just announced that the Inverness school received a $7,500 Monsanto Fund grant for their Outdoor Classroom. Employees from Climate Corporation Chicago recommended Holy Family Catholic Academy to receive the grant from the Monsanto Fund's 2016 site grant initiative. Funds from the grant will be used to expand science and technology learning via Holy Family Catholic Academy's innovative outdoor classroom.

"We are thrilled to receive this generous grant from the Monsanto Fund," said Principal Kate O'Brien. As the first preschool through Grade 8 school in the Chicago area to have a nationally certified outdoor classroom, HFCA is committed to furthering our students' study of science and the natural world. Our outdoor classroom provides a perfect backdrop to allow our students access to an authentic hands-on laboratory."

HFCA will use the Monsanto funds to restore part of their 20-acre campus to a native Illinois prairie. This project will involve students working in teams to research, identify, plan and plant the prairie. "We are hoping to inspire our families and neighbors to understand the benefits of restoring our ecosystem with native plants," added Principal O'Brien.

"Education in science is critical for today's students. Holy Family Catholic Academy is once again at the cutting edge of education with their outdoor classroom," said Corbett Kull, Sr. Director of Engineering at Climate Corporation Chicago a division of Monsanto. "We're proud to support Holy Family Catholic Academy with this Monsanto Fund grant."

This year, the Monsanto Fund awarded more than $1.4 million to nonprofit organizations through its site grant initiative to help address essential needs in rural communities. Nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than $7.5 million through this program over the last five years.
