A Mahomet woman's 1990 death to be re-examined

MONTICELLO, Ill. (AP) - The discovery of new evidence has prompted a re-examination of a rural Mahomet woman's death.

The News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/29l0XfY ) reports that Piatt County coroner Troy Dunn says the case is being re-opened to determine the true cause of 29-year-old Sheryl Ann Houser's death. Houser was found hanging in the garage of her home in October 1990. A coroner's jury originally ruled the cause of death as undetermined.

Piatt County sheriff David Hunt says state police have reviewed the case and don't believe it was a suicide. Authorities want to present the case to a coroner's inquest to see if they agree.

A jury will hear testimony about the case Friday and deliberate before giving its opinion on the cause of death.
