Elhmust History Museum holds 'Summer Spectacular'

When you present an exhibit in your museum gallery called "But Wait, There's More!," one thing's for sure: people have expectations.

In keeping with the superlative themes of its latest exhibit, the Elmhurst History Museum invites the public to Isn't That Amazing! Summer Spectacular, a celebration of invention, innovation and the allure of Ronco and Popeil products, from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17, on the Elmhurst History Museum grounds, 120 E. Park Ave., Elmhurst.

The free event for all ages is designed to showcase the appeal and spiel of products touted by TV pitchmen - from the Pocket Fisherman and Mr. Microphone to the Inside-the-Egg Scrambler, Miracle Broom and countless more. The afternoon will include the following activities:

• Product Demonstration Tent: Watch product demonstrators at various booths as they test an array of Ronco and Popeil products throughout the day.

• Ronco Chef Challenge, 2 p.m.: Three local chefs dazzle the audience with their chopping skills as they use products like the Veg-O-Matic, Chop-O-Matic and Kitchen Magician to create dishes and compete for the Golden Veg-O-Matic trophy. Participating Elmhurst chefs include: Alvaro Sosa from Café Amano, Ben Sheagren of One Fifty One Kitchen + Bar, and Stuart McLuckie from OMG Brunch & Boutique.

• Mr. Microphone Karaoke Contest: Don't be shy - we know you've got singing chops! Sign up to participate in the Mr. Microphone Karaoke Contest taking place at 3 p.m.

• Invention Station: Kids can try out one of the museum's portable Invention Boxes to create their own devices (one per family).

• Tour the But Wait, There's More! exhibit inside the museum. Free admission.

• Sno-Cones available for purchase from Tropical Sno.
