Shuttered Illinois Mitsubishi plant headed for auction

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) - The owner of a former Mitsubishi auto plant in central Illinois will hold an auction in August to sell off the facility and its equipment.

Maynards Industries USA Division bought the plant together with another company last month after the automaker ended production there late last year. Maynards specializes in industrial asset auction, appraisal and liquidation services.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (http://bit.ly/298zRfQ ) the industrial auction will be held at the site on Aug. 16-19.

The auction will include the facility itself and more than 10,000 lots of metal stamping, plastics, paint, robotic assembly, tire assembly, machine tools and other equipment.

The Japanese automaker decided to close the plant because of diminishing sales. The facility was one of the largest employers in the Bloomington-Normal area.
