Naperville garage fire damages 2 cars

Two cars were damaged but no one was injured in a garage fire in Naperville, authorities said.

The cars were parked inside an attached garage at a house on the 2200 block of Comstock Lane, which caught fire about 3:25 p.m. Thursday, the fire department said.

Firefighters determined the fire began in some landscaping material outside the house near Book Road and 87th Street before making its way into the garage.

It took crews a half-hour to extinguish the fire, but they stayed for another hour to overhaul the scene and investigate the cause.

Despite moderate damage to the structure, the two-story house was deemed habitable by an inspector from Naperville's transportation, engineering and development department.

Firefighters from Bolingbrook and Plainfield provided coverage for some areas of Naperville while crews responded to the fire.
