Part of Bloomingdale house collapses from fire

Par of a Bloomingdale house collapsed from a major fire early Saturday in which one firefighter was slightly injured. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

The Bloomingdale Fire Department arrived around 7:15 a.m. on the 300 block of Scarborough Court to find a two-story home engulfed in flames. No one was home at the time, but firefighters searched the home because they saw cars in the driveway, said Bloomingdale Chief Jeff Janus.

"The back of the building had collapsed so they had to retreat and continue to work from the outside," Janus said.

Once the fire was under control, firefighters returned inside to ensure no one was home. One firefighter suffered a neck burn, and was treated and released from a hospital.

The size of the loss is still unknown. The firefighters expected to remain on site through the afternoon to ensure the fire is completely out, Janus said.

The DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force is working to determine the cause, he said. Firefighters from Carol Stream, Roselle, Glenside, Hanover Park, Wheaton, Winfield, West Chicago and Schaumburg assisted, he said.
