Schaumburg Library Branches Offer Summer Youth Programs

A variety of free programs for children and tweens are taking place this summer at the Schaumburg Township District Library's branches. Crafts, animals, gardening and more will be highlighted in fun and educational events at the Hoffman Estates Branch Library, 1550 Hassel Rd.; and the Hanover Park Branch Library, 1266 Irving Park Rd.

All ages are invited to the Hanover Park Branch for "Family Storytime with Mayor Rod Craig" from 1 - 1:30 p.m., Wednesdays, July 6 and 13. Mayor Craig and other special guests from the community will read aloud and talk with library visitors.

To celebrate Shark Week, the Hoffman Estates branch will offer "Shark Coloring" for all ages from 11-11:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 12. Participants will color sharks with family and friends. The Hanover Park Branch will hold "Shark in a Bottle" for ages 6-12 from 11-11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 15. Participants will make their own shark aquarium craft.

Kids ages 9-12 are welcome to become "Garden Detectives" from 3-4 p.m., Thursdays, July 7, 14 and 21 at the Hanover Park Branch. Tend to the vegetable garden on the library's patio and learn how to keep gardens healthy and productive.

Both branch library's will host the Scales and Tales Traveling Zoo in July. Families can meet exotic animals from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Monday, July 18 at the Hoffman Estates Branch; or from 1:30-2:30 p.m., Monday, July 25 at the Hanover Park Branch.

"Family Game Day" is scheduled from 11 a.m. - Noon, Tuesday, July 19 at the Hoffman Estates Branch. Board games, card games, group games and more will take place at this event.

Tweens ages 9-12 can try their hand at "Pendulum Painting" from 3-4 p.m., Tuesday, July 26 at the Hoffman Estates Branch; or from 3-4 p.m., Thursday, July 28 at the Hanover Park Branch. Participants will go outside to create artistic designs using paint-filled pendulums.
