Tumpane becomes full-time MLB umpire

NEW YORK (AP) - John Tumpane has been appointed by Major League Baseball to be a full-time umpire.

Tumpane, a pro umpire since 2002 has worked at the Triple-A level since 2009. The 33-year-old has also umpired in the Gulf Coast League (Rookie league), the New York-Penn League (Single-A), the South Atlantic League (Single-A), the Florida State League (Single-A), the Eastern League (Double-A), the International League (Triple-A) and the Pacific Coast League (Triple-A).

He worked his first spring training game in 2009 and served as an umpire at the 2008 Futures Game and worked the inaugural MLB umpire camp in 2006.

He will continue to work with the crew of Jeff Kellogg.
