Wauconda Seniors Club meets for information, fun

Submitted by Arlene Meyer

At the June meeting of the Wauconda Seniors Club, President Carol Calcitrai opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag, singing "God Bless America" and reading of a poem dedicated to fathers in remembrance of Father's Day.

Blood pressure readings were taken by members of the Wauconda Fire Department #1 Station.

Committee members gave their reports, including Vice President Clair Thompson reporting on messages sent to members who have been ill and the ordering of ID tags for future meetings; Secretary Rose Braido Hall who read the minutes of the last meeting; Treasurer Dolores Brumm giving her financial report; Membership Chairman Shirley Liebert reporting that two new members have joined; and Trip Coordinator Loraine Gorski with a reminder for members attending the club's June 14 trip to White Pines;

Guests includes Peggy Busceni Grady from Catholic Charities - Dine Around Lake County - who gave an update schedule of meals at local restaurants for the month; and folk singer Mark Dvorak who gave a lively presentation of old and new songs on the banjo and guitar.

Cake, coffee and tea was served and door prizes were raffled off before the meeting was adjourned.

The club's next meeting will be held at noon on Tuesday, July 5, at Wauconda Township Hall, 505 W. Bonner Road, Wauconda, and will feature a picnic and potluck luncheon. Chicken will be provided by Eduardo's Catering with special favorites brought by the members, and bingo.
