Woman charged with drug-induced homicide in overdose death

TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (AP) - An 18-year-old central Illinois woman has been charged with drug-induced homicide in the overdose death of a man earlier this month.

Angela N. McKinnon of Taylorville was arrested by police in Taylorville on Wednesday. She is accused of providing heroin to 25-year-old Charles Stevens of Kincaid, who was found dead in his home on June 11.

Christian County prosecutors said Thursday they have text messages and phone-call records tying McKinnon to the drug sale.

A judge set McKinnon's bond at $1 million.

Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp says the arrest demonstrates authorities will be tough on those who deal drugs, adding he wants to get the message out to drug dealers that they are "destroying people's lives."

It wasn't immediately known if McKinnon has legal representation.

Drug-induced homicide is punishable by six to 30 years in prison.
