West Dundee

• Barry Harkins, 55, of the 1500 block of Jefferson Street, Lake in the Hills, was charged June 24 with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, improper lighting, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to West Dundee police. An officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop after noticing a vehicle with only one headlight, at which point Harkins drove up a raised traffic island and through a sign, officials said. He was taken into custody about 10:30 p.m.

• Juan Leon, 24, of the 800 block of Wing Street, Elgin, was charged June 24 with driving 40 mph or more over the speed limit and operating an uninsured vehicle, according to West Dundee police. He was taken into custody at 10:11 p.m. on South Eighth Street after an officer noticed a motorcycle driving well over the posted speed limit, officials said.

Kane County

• John A. Ruud, 32, of the 0-99 block of Johns Lane, Aurora, was charged with DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper lane use after a one-car crash at 6 p.m. June 19 near Rural Street and Austin Avenue near Aurora, according to a sheriff's report. Ruud told deputies he swerved to avoid hitting something but would not specify what, the report said. A blood draw at a hospital registered a blood alcohol content of .211, the report said. The legal threshold is .08.
