Hurricanes add Ray Whitney to scouting staff

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Hurricanes have added former forward Ray Whitney to their full-time professional scouting staff.
General manager Ron Francis on Wednesday also announced the retirement of the team's director of pro scouting, Marshall Johnston.
The 75-year-old Johnston has spent the past 11 years in the Hurricanes' organization and also worked with New Jersey, Ottawa and Chicago.
The 44-year-old Whitney scored 385 goals and had 679 assists while playing for eight teams from 1991-2011. He was on the Hurricanes team that won the Stanley Cup in 2006.
He had been a part-time scout for the Hurricanes and Francis says his "knowledge of the game and our league is an asset to the organization."
