Former Philadelphia Flyers coach Berube to lead Chicago Wolves

Former Philadelphia Flyers coach Craig Berube is the new head coach of the Chicago Wolves, team officials announced Wednesday.

The 50-year-old Berube, who had a 17-year playing career in the NHL, has signed a two-year contract and becomes the ninth head coach in team history.

"Him being the kind of player he was, he brings accountability and a lot of credibility, too, He's a hockey man." said Wolves general manager Wendell Young. "As a coach, he has a winning record and he has a winning resume in the National Hockey League."

Berube previously coached the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. This will be Berube's second stint as a coach in the AHL. He served two years as assistant coach and one year as head coach for the Flyers AHL affiliate, Philadelphia Phantom.

"He brings everything to the table not only knowledge but accountability and credibility. I believe the focus is going to be there and bring back the winning ways that we're so accustomed to," Young said. "We have a standard that we set in our organization and we believe Craig brings all that to the table."

The Wolves, affiliated with the St. Louis Blues, have missed the playoffs in four of the last eight seasons and haven't been to the Calder Cup finals since winning the title in the 2007-2008 season.
