Suburban Indianapolis officer shoots, injures armed suspect

GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) - Police in suburban Indianapolis say an officer shot an armed suspect after a short vehicle pursuit.

Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth says an officer tried to pull over a man who fled the traffic stop. He says the man led the officer on a short pursuit before crashing in Indianapolis. Fillenwarth says the man got out of his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the officers. Fillenwarth says the officer when drew his weapon and shot the suspect in the buttocks.

Fillenwarth says the man crashed into four cars sitting in traffic as he fled the officer. The suspect hasn't been identified. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The officer will be placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
