4 Lake County businesses sold alcohol to minors, sheriff's office says

Four Lake County businesses have been cited by the Lake County sheriff's office for selling alcohol to minors, authorities said Tuesday.

Two of the businesses failed to check identification and the other two checked identification but still sold alcohol to an underage person, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

The department tested 60 establishments in its second yearly round of alcohol compliance checks, which concluded this month.

The businesses cited were: Shell, 28787 N. Waukegan Road in Lake Bluff; Foremost Liquors, 20606 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Deerfield; Mobil, 33199 N. Route 45 in Grayslake; and Citgo, 41082 N. Route 83 in Antioch.

"The Lake County sheriff's office expects establishments selling alcohol to take their responsibilities seriously," Undersheriff Ray Rose said in the news release. "It's absolutely imperative the buyer's age is verified before dispensing alcohol."

The clerks from the four businesses are due in court July 20.
