Ice cream for bicycle safety

The Antioch Police Department, in partnership with the Antioch Dairy Queen, has introduced a new program to encourage and reward good bicycle safety practices by children in the community. Dairy Queen is providing coupons to officers to hand out for a free ice cream cone when they see a child wearing a bicycle helmet. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, each year approximately 515,000 people sustain injuries on bicycles requiring emergency treatment. Bicycle safety tips or Illinois Bicycle Rules of the Road are available at the Antioch police department, 433 Orchard St.
