Arlington Heights couple honored by Sisters of Providence

More than 270 donors joined the Sisters of Providence for a dinner and award presentation during the annual Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Dinner at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday, June 4.

This year, Arlington Heights residents Marilyn and Chuck Neuman were two of six recipients of the Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Companions Award.

Marilyn, currently a Providence Associate, was a member of the congregation for 19 years. She has had a relationship with the Sisters of Providence spanning more than 70 years. The couple has given to every fund and campaign the Sisters of Providence have had since 1981.

The dinner takes place annually in the O'Shaughnessy Dining Room at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to honor donors for their gifts of time, talent and resources, while also presenting the Queen Amelia, Sarah and Joseph Thralls and the Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Companions awards.

The Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Companions Award was established in honor of Sisters St. Vincent Ferrer, Basilide Seneschal, Olympiade Boyer, Mary Xavier Leree and Mary Liguori Tiercin, the five sister companions who supported Mother Theodore and remained by her side assisting her as needed while offering their own wisdom and perseverance to advance the mission.

Jasper, Indiana, residents David and Julia Fuhs received the Queen Amelia Award this year, while Jasonville, Indiana, resident Sheila Donis received the Sarah and Joseph Thralls Award.

Other Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Companion Awards were bestowed to Michael Cassell from Decatur; Frances Ginther from Gary, Indiana; Johanna Henry from Indianapolis; and Dr. Karla Zody from West Terre Haute, Indiana.

The Sisters of Providence, a congregation of nearly 320 women religious members, with more than 200 Providence Associates, collaborate with others to create a more just and hope-filled world through prayer, education, service and advocacy.

The Sisters of Providence have their motherhouse at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, located just northwest of downtown Terre Haute, Indiana. Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in 1840.

Today, Sisters of Providence minister in 17 states, the District of Columbia and Asia, through works of love, mercy and justice. More information about the Sisters of Providence and their ministries may be found at SistersofProvidence.org.
