Off-duty Cook County deputy sheriff shoots, injures 2

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say an off-duty Cook County deputy sheriff shot and injured two people after watching them fire shots at a vehicle on Chicago's South Side.

Chicago police said the deputy was eating in his car at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday when he saw a 15-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man argue with people inside a vehicle. Authorities say the deputy sheriff then saw the boy and man pull out weapons and fire at the vehicle.

Police said the deputy sheriff got out of his car and announced he was law enforcement. Police say the boy and man then turned and pointed their guns at the deputy sheriff.

Authorities say the deputy sheriff shot the boy in the leg and the man in the ankle. They were both in good condition at a nearby hospital.
