Two-thirds say Obama tried to make race relations better

WASHINGTON (AP) - A new Pew poll finds that vast majorities of blacks and Hispanics think President Barack Obama at least tried to make race relations in the U.S. better during his time in office.

Only about half of whites think Obama made race relations better or tried to make race relations better but failed. Almost a third of whites said Obama "made race relations worse," according to the Pew Research Center report.

Eighty-five percent of blacks and 74 percent of Hispanics said Obama made race relations better or tried and failed. Only about half of whites - 52 percent - agreed, with almost a third - 32 percent - said the president made things worse.

Overall, 62 percent said Obama tried to make race relations better but 25 percent said he made things worse.
