Sheriff's deputies host fundraiser
Editor's note: To clarify a June 28 brief about a charitable card game, the Lake County sheriff's office is not a sponsor of the event. The July 2 fundraiser is hosted by Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 66. Sheriff's officials have sent a letter asking the lodge to not include the sheriff's office in media releases about the event.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 66 will host an annual charitable card game from 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, to 1 a.m. Sunday, July 3, at Gurnee Holiday Inn Convention Center, 6161 W. Grand Ave. There is no advance registration required for the Texas Hold 'em games, and players may buy in any amount of chips they desire. A percentage of the winnings from each table will benefit Lake County Toys for Tots, Special Olympics and Easter Seals. Discounted food and a cash bar will be available. "We invite the public to join us for a game of chance to benefit kids in our community who often don't get a good chance," said FOP Lodge 66 President Darryl Lewallen.
