Dallas' Diaz stars in 2-0 win against Real Salt Lake
FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Dallas' Fabian Castillo finished Mauro Diaz's sensational assist to cap the Texan team's 2-0 home victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday, moving within a point of the lead in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.
The result between the West's second and third ranked teams moved Dallas within a point of Colorado, which does have two games in hand.
Philadelphia's lead in the Eastern Conference was trimmed to two points after the Union suffered its first home loss of the season, beaten by Vancouver.
Elsewhere, San Jose found a 90th minute equalizer in a draw against Los Angeles, and a Dom Dwyer double gave Sporting Kansas City a share of the points at Montreal.
Dallas' Diaz was instrumental in both of his team's goals. In the 18th minute, he quickly took a freekick to put Michael Barrios in behind the defense, and his pass found Kellyn Acosta for the opening goal.
In the 58th, Diaz received the ball with his back to goal and bicycle kicked the ball to Castillo, who cut inside a defender and sent a 15-foot shot into the corner of the net.
Real Salt Lake, which only had four shots on goal, has only five points total from its 15 games against Dallas.
Vancouver's Andrew Jacobson, Kekuta Manneh and Christian Bolanos scored in a 3-2 victory at Philadelphia.
Bolanos had the key goal in the 84th minute, with Chris Pontius scoring the final goal for Philadelphia late in stoppage time. Bolanos took a pass near the top left corner of the area and shot through the legs of a defender just inside the post.
The Union had been unbeaten in its previous eight home games.
San Jose's Chad Barrett headed home Shea Salinas' free kick in the 90th minute to give the Earthquakes a 1-1 draw against Los Angeles.
Giovani dos Santos opened the scoring for the Galaxy in the 69th minute, finishing Steven Gerrard's wide cross with a header.
The game, held at Stanford Stadium, set an Earthquakes attendance record of 50,816.
Montreal's Dwyer continued his tremendous scoring record against Montreal, with his brace giving Sporting KC a 2-2 away draw.
His first of the night was a 21st minute equalizer, heading in Roger Espinoza's cross from close range.
Dwyer's second tied it 2-2 in the 59th. He fired a left-footed strike from just outside the box that found the bottom corner of the net.
He has scored nine career goals against Montreal, and no other player has more than seven against the Impact.
Lucas Ontivero and Ignacio Piatti scored for Montreal.
New York City's Frank Lampard scored a goal that was disputed for suspected handball, and Ronald Matarrita added an insurance tally in the 87th minute to secure a 2-0 win at Seattle.
Orlando City's Kaka converted a penalty in the 10th minute of stoppage time to seal a 3-2 win against Toronto, with a goalkeeper injury accounting for the copious added time.
D.C. United's Lamar Neagle scored one goal and set up another as the Washington team beat New England 2-0.
Columbus' Ola Kamara scored late in stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 home draw for the Crew against New York.
