Valeri's 2 penalty kicks give Timbers 3-2 win over Dynamo

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) - Portland's Diego Valeri converted two late penalties to give the Timbers a 3-2 home win against lowly Houston on Sunday.

Houston had led with two goals in two minutes of the first half through forwards Andrew Wenger and Will Bruin.

Valeri set up a goal for fellow Argentine Lucas Melano in the 64th minute to pull a goal back for the hosts, then he converted an 87th minute penalty that was awarded for handball.

Portland was awarded a more contentious penalty in the first minute of stoppage time and Valeri again converted.

The Timbers are undefeated in six games overall and five MLS matches, and the win pushed them up to fifth place in the Western Conference.

Houston - last in the Western Conference - has played three consecutive draws since the departure of Owen Coyle, who has become manager of Blackburn in England. Wade Barrett was promoted to interim head coach.
