FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Fabian Castillo finished Mauro Diaz's sensational assist in the 58th to cap FC Dallas' 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night in a Western Conference showdown.
Taking a feed on the offensive end with his back to the goal, Diaz sent a bicycle kick to Castillo's feet. Castillo made a move to get inside the box, cut inside the defender and sent a 15-foot shot into the far corner.
Diaz also had a heady assist for the opening goal in the 18th minute. Fouled by Jamison Olave near midfield, his quick restart found Michael Barrios behind the defense for a two-man breakaway with Barrios passing left to make Kellyn Acosta's first goal an easy marker.
Second-place Dallas (9-5-4) snapped a three-game winless streak and moved within a point of Colorado for the conference and overall MLS lead. Real Salt Lake (8-5-3) is third in the conference, four points behind Dallas.
Real Salt Lake, now 1-12-2 at FC Dallas, only had four shots and Chris Seitz didn't have to make a single save for the shutout.
NEW YORK CITY FC 2, SOUNDERS 0
SEATTLE (AP) - Frank Lampard scored a disputed goal late in the first half, Ronald Matarrita added an insurance tally in the 87th minute and New York City FC beat Seattle.
In the 38th minute, a corner kick by New York's Andrea Pirlo was cleared away from the net, but not out of the penalty area. NYC defender R.J. Allen lofted it back toward the 6-yard box. Lampard, standing a yard inside of it and, with Seattle's Tyrone Mears tight on him, chested it hard to the ground. Goalkeeper Stefan Frei swiped at it with his left hand, but could not keep it out of the net.
Frei and Mears immediately gestured that the ball went off of Lampard's arm. Referee Alan Kelly initially signaled it was a goal, then had an extended conversation with linesman Mike Rottersman. Finally, Kelly pointed toward midfield, making it official that the call would stand.
New York City (6-5-6) won its second straight after a four-game winless streak. The Sounders (5-9-1) dropped their second in a row and fifth in the last six games.
ORLANDO CITY 3, TORONTO FC 2
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Kaka scored on a penalty kick in the 10th minute of stoppage time to lift Orlando City past Toronto.
Julio Baptista drew the foul, going to the turf after battling with Toronto's Drew Moor for a diagonal cross into the middle of the area.
Cyle Larin and Adrian Winter also scored for Orlando City (4-3-8).
Justin Morrow tied it for Toronto (5-6-4) in the 90th minute. Jordan Hamilton also scored.
Toronto goalkeeper Clint Irwin left with a leg injury in the 70th minute. Alex Bono replaced him, making his first career MLS appearance.
SPORTING KANSAS CITY 2, IMPACT 2, TIE
MONTREAL (AP) - Dom Dwyer scored twice to help Sporting Kansas City rally for the tie with Montreal.
Lucas Ontivero and Ignacio Piatti scored for Montreal.
Dwyer continued his dominance over the Impact, scoring his eighth and ninth career goals against Montreal. No other MLS player has more than seven goals against the Impact.
His first of the night tied it at 1 the 21st minute. Dwyer got his head on Roger Espinoza's cross from close range, giving goalkeeper Evan Bush no chance to make the save.
Dwyer's second tied it at 2 in the 59th. He fired a left-footed strike from just outside the 18-yard box that found the bottom corner of the net, just out of Bush's reach.
Sporting is 6-8-4, and the Impact 5-4-6.
EARTHQUAKES 1, GALAXY 1, TIE
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Chad Barrett headed home Shea Salinas' free kick in the 90th minute to give San Jose the draw with Los Angeles in the final matchup of the California Clasico.
Giovani dos Santos opened the scoring for the Galaxy (5-3-8) in the 69th minute, finishing Steven Gerrard's wide cross with a header into the right corner of the goal.
The Galaxy claimed the rivalry cup with a 3-1 victory over the Quakes on March 19 and a 1-1 draw on May 22.
It was the 58th regular-season MLS meeting in the rivalry that started April 28, 1996. The Quakes (5-4-7) began hosting the early summer edition of the rivalry in Stanford Stadium in 2012 and set an attendance record Saturday night with 50,816.
WHITECAPS 3, UNION 2
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Andrew Jacobson, Kekuta Manneh and Christian Bolanos scored and Vancouver handed Philadelphia its first home loss of the season.
Bolanos had the key goal in the 84th minute, with Chris Pontius scoring the final goal for Philadelphia late in stoppage time. Bolanos took a pass from Erik Hurtado near the top left corner of the 18 box, made a move and right-footed a shot through the legs of defender Keegan Rosenberry for his fifth goal. The ball, which may have deflected off Rosenberry, slipped just inside the left post.
Vancouver improved to 7-7-3.
Roland Alberg also scored for the Union (7-5-5). They dropped to 6-1-2 at home.
D.C. UNITED 2, REVOLUTION 0
WASHINGTON (AP) - Lamar Neagle had a goal and an assist to give D.C. United an early lead that stood up against New England.
D.C. opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Luciano Acosta chipped a perfect pass over the defense to the foot of Neagle, who volleyed it in from 10 yards out.
Sean Franklin added his first of the season, knocking in Neagle's cross in the 27th minute.
D.C. (5-6-5) leapfrogged the Revolution (4-5-7) into fifth in the Eastern Conference.
RED BULLS 1, CREW 1, TIE
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ola Kamara scored late in stoppage time to give Columbus the tie with New York.
Kamara got behind the defense on an inside run and was able to slide and redirect a cross from Waylon Francis for his fifth goal. Time might have expired with three minutes of stoppage time added, but New York defender Gideon Baah was injured blocking a shot in the second minute.
Bradley Wright-Phillips scored for the Red Bulls (7-8-2) in the 52nd minute.
Columbus is 3-5-7.
