Boomers sweep Lake Erie Crushers

The Schaumburg Boomers scored early and let Seth Webster do the rest as they swept Lake Erie in a 3-2 victory Thursday night.

The Boomers got two ugly runs in the first as Jordan Dean scored on a wild pitch and Chris Robinson grounded out to the second baseman to score Kenny Towns. Eric Grabe cut the Schaumburg lead in half with a solo home run to lead off the second inning. The Boomers responded with one in the bottom of the frame on an RBI triple from Dean to make the score 3-1. From there Webster did the rest, allowing just one run in the seventh. The Schaumburg pen threw two scoreless innings to seal the win.

Webster threw seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out eight. The win tied Webster with Eddie Cody for most career wins in Boomers history. Another record went down Thursday night as Evan Boyd's scoreless ninth earned him his third save of the year and 19 straight scoreless innings, the longest such streak in Schaumburg history. The victory was Schaumburg's seventh straight at Boomers Stadium.

The Boomers welcome the Washington Wild Things to town Friday night for the first game of a three-game series.
