On Broadway, more shows bring the curtain down; 1 moving

NEW YORK (AP) - The post-Tony Awards audits are in full swing on Broadway, with two shows on Thursday setting closing dates and one new one moving addresses.

Producers of "An American in Paris," the dance-heavy stage adaptation of the 1951 musical film choreographed by Gene Kelly, announced the show will leap into the sunset on Jan. 1 after playing some 750 performances.

Another show joining it in the history books will be "Shuffle Along," the show that explores a groundbreaking 95-year-old musical that was one of the first Broadway shows starring, written and directed by African-Americans. It will close July 24, the same date star Audra McDonald was to depart on maternity leave. Though nominated for 10 Tonys, it won none.

In happier news, "The Humans," which won the best play Tony earlier this month, is switching from the Helen Hayes Theatre to the larger Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre this summer. Its last show at the Hayes is July 24 and its first at the Schoenfeld is Aug. 9.

Stephen Karam's play is composed entirely of a single 90-minute, real-time scene set during a Thanksgiving dinner in a run-down New York apartment. The show has been doing great business since the Tony win, having beaten out "The Father," ''Eclipsed" and "King Charles III."

A few casting changes next month will include Will Chase replacing Christian Borle as William Shakespeare in the musical "Something Rotten!" and Ektor Rivera replacing Josh Segarra as Emilio Estefan in "On Your Feet!"

Turnover on Broadway also includes the already announced closings of the 2015 best musical, "Fun Home," which will play its final performance Sept. 10 at Circle in the Square Theatre. And the new bluegrass musical "Bright Star," which failed to win a Tony, is closing Sunday.
