Barnes & Noble, Macy's and Twilio leap, Red Hat falls

NEW YORK (AP) - Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily on Thursday:

Barnes & Noble Inc., up 82 cents to $11.26

The book seller reported stronger-than-expected quarterly sales.

Macy's Inc., up 57 cents to $33.38

The department store chain said CEO Terry Lundgren will step down early next year after about 13 years in charge.

Red Hat Inc., down $1.36 to $78.39

The open-source software company posted mixed quarterly results and a disappointing outlook. It also said it will buy software maker 3scale.

Citigroup Inc., up $1.78 to $44.46

Bond yields climbed Thursday and gave bank stocks a lift.

Twilio Inc., up $13.79 to $28.79

The software company surged after it went public in an initial public offering that raised $150 million.

Valero Energy Corp., up 90 cents to $53.71

Energy companies rose as the price of oil turned higher.

Bed Bath & Beyond Inc., up 65 cents to $43.83

The home goods retailer posted disappointing results and lowered some of its sales projections.

Eversource Energy, down 27 cents to $56.42

Utility companies lagged the market as investors felt confident enough to take bigger risks.
