Bartlett festival adds literary arts to its lineup

The 14th Annual Festival of the Arts, produced by Arts in Bartlett, will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, in Bartlett Park at Oak and North avenues.

A variety of 2-D and 3-D art such as photography, watercolor, ceramics, jewelry, wood and glass are part of the festival, which has added the literary arts to the traditional visual and performing arts event.

Ten authors from surrounding communities will take turns at the Author's Tent for book signings, representing a variety of adult and children's titles.

Judges Thomas and Gale Trausch will award visual artist ribbons and cash prizes on Saturday and votes for visitors' favorite artist will determine the People's Choice Award Sunday.

Among other attractions:

• Children can create their own art in the gazebo with teachers from the Color My World Art Academy, sponsored by dentist A. Mategrano.

• The World Tent features drumming circles with Rita Lopienski and a henna artist.

• Hanover Township's Senior Center puppeteers will show how puppets are made and run a video of their recent puppet show.

• Two free walking tours of historic homes surrounding the park will be led by members of the Bartlett Historical Society, leaving from the Information Tent at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday

• Pasta Mia will have pizza, hot dogs, Italian sausage and other food items in the beer and wine tent, and there will be an ice cream vendor near the stage.

Musical entertainment includes folk, rock, blues and old favorites. Multicultural music and dance offerings include Grupo Folklorico Quetzal, a Latin American dance troupe from Hanover Park; Gauri Jog Indian Dance School in Schaumburg; Szepty Dance Group of Whispers Center for Artistic Expression in Streamwood; Greg Herriges, who plays Asian, Turkish and Russian guitar; and the Bartlett International Chorus, which teams up with the Chicago Hakka chorus to sing in Chinese and in the Hakka dialect from Taiwan

Saturday after-hours folk and rock bands start at 5 p.m. with Jared Newman singing original music, followed by the rock band Pulp Fusion with Wes Lee K.
