Man dies after being hit by Chicago-bound train in Michigan

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a man has died after being struck in suburban Detroit by an Amtrak passenger train that was heading to Chicago.

Royal Oak Fire Capt. Jim Hodson tells the Detroit Free Press the man was on the tracks on Wednesday morning when he was hit. Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari tells The Detroit News that the man was trespassing and "obstructing the path of a train."

No one aboard the train was injured. The train was heading from Pontiac, Michigan, to Chicago. Magliari says the train was delayed due to the investigation.

WWJ-AM reports the crash happened in an area where there's no track-level crossing for other vehicles or pedestrians. Authorities were working to determine why the man was on the tracks. His name wasn't immediately released.
